Our Story

Wanderer Mead is a brewer owned independent Meadery having great fun plundering mead’s long history for inspiration. The idea of Wanderer Mead as a business started once Stephen began experimenting with historical brewing recipes as a home brewer. Stephen has a background in history teaching and put on a yearly Ancient History banquet for his students. They wondered what ancient and medieval drinks tasted like, and with no commercial options available he began to experiment, and the essence of what Wanderer Mead is was born. (Sadly the students couldn’t try the drinks…. but their parents got some.)  History is the inspiration and this is leveraged to create the genuinely different brews we make. Based in northern Tasmania outside Launceston we use pure Tasmanian honey and as many local ingredients as we can. We make sparkling session meads, honey fruit liqueurs, wine style meads and even spirits distilled from our own mead. But there is always something new bubbling so be sure to check out the ‘Limited release’ brews in the shop.
