Meadmaker and Maker
Crafting More Than Just a Good Drop
At Wanderer Mead, our Meadmaker Stephen doesn’t stop at the still. When he’s not coaxing the good stuff from honey, he’s elbows-deep in clay, resin, and a bit of myth. Part alchemist, part artisan - he’s crafting things that belong in a longhall, a museum, or maybe just your shelf.
This is your official peek behind the forge.
1. The Viking Chess Set — Hnefatafl
Say it with us: hne-fa-taffle. This ancient Viking board game predates modern chess and was all the rage when longships ruled the seas. Stephen has sculpted every piece by hand, captured them in silicone moulds, and cast them in rich, coloured resin.
Each set is a mini saga — one you can play with mates over a horn of mead. Want to learn how to play? Here’s a quick tutorial to start plotting your tactical takeover.
👉 Current Status: Originals sculpted. First casts done. Full set coming soon. Watch the shop or hit us up to get the inside word on progress.
2. The Raven Head Shot Glass / Tasting Cup
What do Vikings say instead of "cheers"? Skål! And now you can say it properly with a raven-headed terracotta tasting cup. Designed by Stephen, the original sculpt is complete. Next step? Making the plaster moulds so we can start casting and glazing them — food-safe, ready to raise.
Whether you're sipping the sacred Honey Oak or sampling our seasonal brews, these cups will take your tasting game up a notch (and back in time).
👉 Current Status: Original sculpt done. Moulds in the works. Want one? Keep an eye on the webshop or get in touch to preorder.
Handmade. Heartfelt. Hella Viking.
Every item will be available via our webshop as they’re completed — small runs only, because that’s how real craft is done. Whether you’re here for the mead or the mythology, Wanderer Mead is where old tales meet new hands.
Stay wild. Drink like a Viking.
